Mechanical characterization of pack-boronized AISI 4140 and AISI H13 steels

Wear losses have a great importance in the world machinery industry. They cause billions of dollars financial every year. Studies on surface treatments are increasing day by order to minimize wear materials. In this study, pack boronizing process was applied AISI 4140 and H13 steels, which frequently used manufacturing molding industry, using Ekabor II powder at 900 °C 950 for 4 6 hours. Microstructural examinations samples subjected metallographic processes were carried out. Afterwards, microhardness measurements performed applying 50 gf load 10 seconds. tests out pin-on-disk tribotests dry environment under 2 N 5 loads CSM Tribometer device. measured as volumetric loss. Thanks process, quality, hardness, resistance both steel materials increased high rate.
